Matthew James Shaw was born on 6th November 2001 in Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S. He is 23 years old as of 2024. Matt originally came from the Massachusetts town of Brimfield.

During his freshman year at Maryland, Matt Shaw achieved a batting average of .332 and scored 42 runs, and had thirty RBIs which secured his Big Ten All-Freshman team position. 

After his sophomore year, he received the First Team All-Big Ten recognition when he hit .290 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs. 

The third year of his college career made Shaw the leader in Maryland history for home runs hit. He collected the Brooks Wallace Award for best shortstop of the nation following his 2023 season.

The Chicago Cubs chose Matt Shaw during the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the position of the 13th selected. He joined the Cubs organization through a $4.85 million contract on July 14 of 2023.
